Need Help? Watch this video: How to Make a Submission

Submit to Sentience!

Sentience is a new online literary anthology publication from a group of Antioch University Los Angeles students and alumni. Poets, novelists, essay writers, and artists, the storytellers in the group are dedicated to honing their craft and supporting their peers as they tackle the beauty and chaos of the world we live in through the written word.

Our inaugural issue embraces the theme of "Isolation," a feeling or circumstance that many of us have become intimately familiar with over the course of 2020. We are looking for exquisite prose, poetry, and artwork that reflects, resonates, and reimagines this theme. The editorial body is drawn to fresh perspectives and encourages creative evocations and deconstructions of what "isolation" really means and looks like.

Sentience accepts:

+ Fiction and creative non-fiction submissions of up to 20 pages. Submit individual short stories and essays separately; flash fiction may be grouped into a single document, with a limit of five pieces per submission.

+ Poetry - individual poems should be grouped into a single document, with a limit of five poems per submission.

+ Art, including original photography and mixed-genre pieces, which resonates with the theme of the issue. Please limit to five pieces per submission.

Submission window will close on January 10.

Please include a cover letter with your submission which includes your correct and current contact information as well as a short bio.

The editorial body cannot give exact estimates of response time and cannot promise comments or notes on pieces submitted, but will consider every submission carefully and with due consideration.

Thank you for submitting to Sentience and we look forward to reading your work!
