Welcome to Local Lit @ Lotta!

Hear your work. Get feedback from the general public. Connect with other local authors and fans of literature.

Local Lit @ Lotta is a literary reading series by and for greater New Haven-based authors held every other month in Westville. Upcoming 2018 events are scheduled for August 7th, October 2nd, and December 4th.

We are seeking both published and unpublished short fiction, creative nonfiction, and memoir that follows the guidelines below. We prefer to hear from authors who feel comfortable reading for a general audience. However, if you are willing to let one of the organizers read your piece, that's fine. Pieces will be selected based on length, quality, and appropriateness for a general audience. (We will not accept works with extreme violence or extremely graphic sexual content.)

Each event will feature the work of two or three authors and will include a brief "talk-back" period where a moderator will guide the audience in discussing the story.  If you have specific questions you would like answered by the audience, please include them at the end of your story submission.

*Save your document as TITLE-LASTNAME-WORDCOUNT.doc or .pdf, for example: AFarewellToArmsExcerpt-Hemingway-1500.pdf

*Put the word count at the top of the 1st page, next to the title
*Put your name and title in the header.
*Put page numbers in the footer.
*Due to time constraints and limited staffing, we can only consider your submission if you follow the guidelines above and submit your document in either .doc or .pdf format.

You may send questions to

Please do not email us to see whether your piece is accepted. We will let you know either way once we make that determination.

We accept rolling submissions for our events. We will notify you within two weeks of the event if your piece is selected.

Thanks for sharing your writing with the greater New Haven community!
